Rio Azul

Rio Azul

Q'anil Cooperative - Rio Azul

Q'anil Cooperative | Rio Azul

Nestled in the remote Municipality of Jacaltenango, within the valleys of the Sierra Madre Mountain range in Western Guatemala, the Q'anil Cooperative is a hidden gem of the famed Huehuetenango coffee-growing region.

Cooperative Q'anil is made up of Etnia Popti Mayan’s where elderly members of the region continue to wear textiles traditional to their mayan heritage. Every February the town holds a large four week long festival to celebrate the four elements: earth, wind, fire and land.

The name "Rio Azul" (meaning "Blue River") is often associated with both the river that flows through this area and the surrounding highland region.

We've roasted this coffee to a light medium and we taste: Stone Fruit, Chocolate Covered Caramel, and Tamarind Syrup.

Pleasant but not mind blowing

Easy drinking coffee with not a lot going on. might be great as espresso?

Awesome cup

Really big fan of Superlost coffee… excellent quality, ship time, and I’m really digging their newer COTM options. The Rio Azul is a pleasant cup to drink, flavorful and smooth.

That Tamarind Tang

Currently working through a second pound of what has become a daily driver at our house. My partner likes a more traditional choco/caramel flavor profile, but I live for the more acidic, fruit-forward light roasts. This one seems to hit the sweet spot for both of us.
